PPA demands rollback of petrol price hike
ITANAGAR, Sept 14: People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has strongly opposed the hike in petrol prices and demanded its immediate roll back.
In a press statement, PPA General Secretary Dr. Ashan Riddi said that hike in petroleum prices has direct bearing on the prices of essential commodities and poor and middle classes were the ultimate victims.
“It (the hike) is unacceptable and totally against the interest of common people,” he said.
While expressing serious concern over escalating prices of all essential commodities in the state, especially Capital Complex, the party general secretary urged the state government to take necessary step to regulate the prices.

Arunachalee students beaten up in Haryana
‘Haryana assures safety of students’

ITANAGAR, Sept 14: The Arunachalee students studying at New Green Field College of Engineering and Technology, Palwal in Haryana were reportedly beaten up today after a skirmish broke out between senior and junior students in the college premise.
Sources informed that clash broke out after the few Nepalese students had argument with students from Bihar over ragging issue and later intervened by Arunachalee students which led to infighting among them. It is said that few Arunachalee students were sustained minor injuries during the clash.
Sources also added that news of clash involving Arunachalee students reached to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who is now currently in New Delhi. Tuki immediately engaged the education minister and chief secretary to assess the ground reality in the college.
Meanwhile, Director Higher and Technical Education Dr. Joram Begi informed this daily over the telephone that the chairman of said college has assured for security and safety of Arunachalee students studying in the college.
Dr. Begi who was in constant touch with the college authority further informed that the college authority has given assurances of students’ safety while considering the situation. “I am told that college authority has already taken action against the students involved in attack of Arunachlee students” he added. Further DHTE appealed to the parents not to go by rumour in such situation.
Meanwhile, it was also informed that Education Minister Bosiram Siram is in constant touch with his counterpart Gita Bhukal Haryana Education Minister. Gita Bhukal assured that no such incident will be allowed to happen in future within the campus. She took the stock of situation and directed Atul Kumar, District Magistrate to bring the situation to normal and under control. Further, the SDM and Police Commissioner are camping in college to avoid any untoward incidents.
The Chairman and the Principal of the New Green Field College of Engineering and Technology has also assured to keep strict vigilance to protect the students of Arunachal Pradesh and there is no need to panic in this issue, sources said.
CCLAPF members register protest against ‘immature’ decision for eviction
ITANAGAR, Sept 14: More than one thousand members of the Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples’ Forum (CCLAPF) along with members of the AAPSU and AdiSU today gathered at the residence of one Bani Danggen at P sector here today to register protest against reported decision of the capital complex administration to demolish his building.
Terming the decision of the administration as immature and unjust the CCLAPF in a release today said the protest was prompted by the administration’s decision to demolish the building without serving any Notice or giving due time.
While addressing the gathering, AAPSU president Kamta Lapung stated that AAPSU shall never compromise in the eviction drive issue and is ready to go to any extent for its permanent solution. However, AAPSU is in favour of eviction of RoW, school, medical and other important public utilities.
AAPSU finance secretary Suraj Tayam while justifying the involvement of AAPSU in this issue stated that “they are students second and sons and daughters of their parents first. So when the Capital Complex administration is about to recklessly evict their parents’ properties, how can remain as mute spectators.”
Meanwhile, AdiSU President Sokun Siboh condemned ‘the vindictive attitude’ of the Capital administration. Eviction drive should be conducted in a free and fair manner, and that it should start from the top most level, he said.

Orgs condemn tourism dept for 'mistake’, demand enquiry
ITANAGAR, Sept 14: Galo Welfare Society (GWS) has vehemently condemned the State’s Tourism Department for showing Malinithan, a historical place of Arunachal Pradesh, as located in Assam.
Demanding an inquiry into the matter and action against the persons responsible for the error, GSU said that showing Malinithan as part of Assam by the Tourism Department has hurt the people of Likabali in particular and Arunachal Pradesh as a whole.
It sought to know if it was a deliberate attempt on the part of the department to alienate the state's property.
Meanwhile, GSU has demanded to stop further circulation of the said magazine.
Galo Students’ Union taking serious exception to a photo published in the department's magazine ‘Discover Arunachal’, where the famous site was described as located at Silapathar in Assam's Dhemaji district, yesterday demanded the department to rectify the error in the next issue of the magazine. It also sought an apology from the department for the ‘mistake’.
Galo Indigenous Faith & Cultural Council (GIFCC) has termed it a great blunder made by the department concerned and its staff and sought explanation in this regard from the head of the department immediately.
Further, GIFCC appealed to All Arunachal Pradesh Student Union (AAPSU) to intervene the matter.
People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) also demanded immediate withdrawal of the August, 2013 edition of the magazine from circulation and rectification of the mistake.

2 houses burnt
ITANAGAR: Two dwelling houses were burnt to ashes at Nginu village under Longding district yesterday.
The fire broke out when the villagers were busy in their fields. The villagers had to dismantle two houses to prevent the fire from further spreading, informed Longwang Wangham, Chief of Nginu village cum ZPM of Longchan Anchal Samiti.
The village chief has directed the villagers to extend all possible help to the victims at this hour of need for their rehabilitation.
Short circuit in one of the houses is suspected to have caused the fire, the release said.

ITANAGAR, Sept 14: The NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteers of JN College Pasighat

The NSS volunteers cleaned the building roofs and cleared jungles around the upper campus of college. Due to deposition of years of debris and other dust particles, the tin sheets of the college buildings got rusted and damaged. The entire holes meant for rain water passage were in blocked conditions because of which seepage occurred during heavy rains. The branches of trees upon building were also pruned, the principal of the college, who described the social service as historic, informed.

RUKSIN, Sept 14: Observing the ‘poor’ educational scenario of Nari-

Referring to various higher secondary schools at Mebo, Sille, Boleng under the district, where the principals are granted DD power, Dabii appealed to the education minister for granting DD power to the principal of the school.
The ZPM also demanded for upgrading the Nari Secondary School to Higher Secondary level along with necessary infrastructure considering the ever growing population.
The lone GHSS of the area (at Telam) located at about 15 Km from Nari hq is overburdened.
Established in 1984 as Primary School, Nari Secondary School was upgraded in 1996.
Another demand made in the memorandum was introduction of Commerce and Agriculture streams in Telam HSS and establishment of National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit therein.
In a separate memorandum, Dabii urged the Education Minister for sanctioning of fund for construction of Teachers’ residential quarters at different primary schools and a middle school in the block.
He further demanded construction of boundary wall around the primary schools at Sere, Depi, Detak and Potte villages.
The ZPM informed that the Education Minister had assured to fulfill the demands as the proposals have already been forwarded to Education Commissioner.
JSM holds meeting on minority issue

DAPORIJO, Sept 14: A meeting was convened by the members of Janjati Suraksha Munch (JSM) district unit to discuss regarding the minority issue in Arunachal Pradesh here on September 12 which was attended by the touring JSM team, including its president.
Speaking on the occasion, JSM president (?) Taba Hare said that there is no question of giving minority status to some sections of the society in Arunachal Pradesh since it is a cent percent tribal state.
“Even if some sections of the society is categorized under minority community then, those community should surrender their Scheduled Tribes certificates and should not avail the benefits granted to the Scheduled Tribes.
He asked the district unit JSM members to get the details of beneficiaries under minority community and the criteria under which those sections of the society have been given the minority status.
Well wishers and other senior citizens, including the members of JSM district unit interacted and exchanged their views on issue of minority in Arunachal and promised to stand united and fight the issue.
Upper Subansiri DA holds discussion on local problems
DAPORIJO, Sept 14: The Upper Subansiri District Administration organized a public meeting at the Rijo Ground here today and discussed various problems being faced by the administration.
The meeting was attended by MLA Tapen Siga, ZP Chairperson Sushil Nalo, political leaders Talo Mugli and Larbin Nasi, DC Tahang Taggu, SP Apang Tamut, PRI members, HoDs, students and public.
On the occasion, DC Tahang Taggu briefed about the aims and objectives of the meeting and presented various problems being faced by the DA.
He briefed about the failure of the education scenario in the district due to BEOs and teachers not doing their duties properly, rampant encroachment of government land and dismantling of government quarters, encroachment of water tank and reservoir area at Tanium Puttu and burial ground, selling of meat and vegetables along the roads sides, cropping up of Pan gumtis and small shops in colonies and operating without trading license, rearing of cattle and livestock in the town area, drains of the town being blocked by the public illegally, law and order problems being created due to selling of local rice beer in the colonies.
Taggu further said that the district had no dearth of funding from the central and state governments but was considered a backward district as the development activities were not being implemented properly and requested the leaders and the public to see and check that such projects materialized and benefit the public. He also warned the government servants indulging in land encroachment activities to stop such practice and added that public too had to stop such activities to protect the Daporijo.
Taggu sought cooperation from one and all for conducive atmosphere in the district and to keep the town clean and beautiful.
MLA Tapen Siga extended his support to DA and strongly spoke against the illegal allotment of land in Daporijo. He also advised the students to concentrate on their studies which would take them a long way in life and stressed on improving the law and order situation of the area through intensive night patrolling. All other speakers representing the students, business community, political leaders and the public unanimously assured to extend support DA.

The blocked nallahs/drains were cleared, garbage dumped in the market areas were collected and disposed off during the social service.
Social service was mainly conducted at Bazar Middle school, Ligu Sec. School, Liruk Middle School, Town Middle School, GHSS and Rijo Middle School under the supervision of ATSU leaders.
Students from all the Govt. schools of the township participated in the social service, which was conduced in two shifts—morning and afternoon. DUDA also provided men and machineries for the purpose.
Addressing the participants, ATSU General Secretary Lukjen Lida expressed gratitude to all, including the general public, DUDA and the person who provided an earth mover (JCB), for extending full support in making the social service a success.
Further, ATSU appealed to the public and business community to keep their surrounding neat and clean.
Seppa Govt College celebrates Hindi Diwas
ITANAGAR, Sept 14: The Govt. College, Seppa celebrated its maiden Hindi Diwas in a befitting manner today.
Students and teachers from various schools like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalay (JNV), Seppa, Govt. Hr. Secondary School Bebo Colony, students from College took part in the cultural and literary activities organized to mark the day.
The representatives from Education Development Organizing Society, E/Kameng unit also participated in the celebration.
Highlighting the background of the celebration, Mema Chiri, Asstt. Prof cum HoD Hindi department said that the Constitution of India declared Hindi as the official language of India on 14th September 1949. Thus “Hindi Diwas” is being celebrated all over the India on 14th September every year.
D. Keteon Khetey, Asstt.Prof.in History presented a Hindi Gazal in the function.
In his address Principal Govt. College, Seppa Robin Hissang, advocated that Hindi language play vital roles to bind the people of the state. He also added that every Hindi speaker should at least try to maintain the standard of the language. Principal also advised the students to maintain discipline, work hard with determination to be successful persons in life.
